The Form Canvas

How to build, arrange, and configure fields using the drag-and-drop form canvas.

Open in app

The canvas is the central editing area in the form builder. It shows your form fields in the order respondents will see them.

Adding fields

From the palette: Click any field type in the left panel to append it to the end of the canvas. Or drag it from the palette to a specific position between existing fields.

From the AI panel: Click Add fields via AI and describe additional fields to insert into the current form.

Duplicate: Click the copy icon on any field to create an exact duplicate of it directly below.

Reordering fields

Grab the drag handle (⠿) on the left side of any field card and drag it up or down to reorder. The canvas shows a drop indicator to help you place it precisely.

Editing a field

Click anywhere on a field card to open its settings in the right panel. Changes apply immediately and are auto-saved.

Deleting a field

Click the trash icon on a field card. You'll be prompted to confirm if the field has conditional logic referencing it — deleting it will also remove those conditions.

Sections and multi-page forms

Add a Section Break field to split your form into multiple pages. Respondents complete one section before moving to the next. Each section can have its own title and description.

Use Section Title fields (without section breaks) to add visual headings within a single-page form.

Field groups

You can group related fields visually using a Section Title followed by the fields. This doesn't affect the submission flow — it's purely a layout aid.

Conversational mode

Any form can be switched to Conversational Mode, which presents one field at a time, like a chat. Toggle this in the form's Settings → Display → Conversational Mode. The field structure stays the same — only the presentation changes.

Conversational mode works best for short-to-medium forms (under 15 fields) and significantly improves completion rates.

Preview

Click Preview in the toolbar (or press Cmd/Ctrl + P) to see an accurate preview of your form. The preview panel respects your current theme settings and lets you test the submission flow without creating real responses.
